The High Plain
Description: A Julian Bryan film for the United States Office of the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs about Bolivia in the 1940s. Records the life of the Aymara workers at the Petaca potato hacienda on the Bolivian altiplano. Scenes of fishing in Lake Titicaca; women in mourning shawls, spinning wool, weaving; children tending sheep; planting and harvesting potatoes; praying to Christian and Indian gods. The owner brings the first tractors to Petaca, plants barley, introduces firing of lime and cutting peat to improve economic production.
